Canpages, the independent directory publisher that continues to solidify its role as Yellow Pages Group‘s primary direct competitor in Canada, has acquired GigPark, a Toronto start-up that collects personal recommendations for local service providers, a la Angie’s List, except that the site is free to consumers. GigPark generates revenues selling premium services to local businesses. The acquisition allows Canpages to integrate word-of-mouth content into its business listings.

This deal is one of a string of acquisitions Canpages has made to expand its directory footprint or add capabilities to its digital platform. These include the recent acquisition of ypOne’s PhoneGuide directories in Ontario. Earlier in the year, Canpages acquired Ziplocal.ca, a Canadian local online media site, and five EZ Finder local print directories from Direct West.

Here is an article on the deal in the Toronto Globe and Mail.
