The Internet services and online marketing solutions provider Web.com launched a new interface this week that may eliminate the need for SMBs to create two websites, one for Internet local search and another for mobile. Web.com’s mobile website detects when Internet-enabled mobile devices are accessing a website. It then redirects the user to mobile-friendly, icon-based views of commonly requested information like directions, contact info and hours of operation.

Since the service automatically populates the mobile site from existing content, site operators don’t have to require mobile users to download apps. In addition, SMBs won’t have to market a second domain name.

“Now that more than 84% of the handets operating on wireless carriers’ networks are capable of browsing the web, small businesses must be able to effectively connect with potential customers at the moment they are posied to call, email or walk through the door,” said Web.com CEO David Brown in a statement. Web.com is now offering the mobile website service to its new and renewing domain name customers through its recently acquired Register.com subsidiary.
