For the few of you who still think Twitter is a fad, the term tweet was just minted with most recent class of inductees to the Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary. Other words that made the cut include “social media” and “crowdsourcing” (those weren’t already in there?!).

According to a statement by Merriam-Webster Editor at Large Peter Sokolowski:

“We’ve been tracking words like social media and tweet for years, of course, and now we feel their meanings have stabilized enough to include them in the dictionary.”

Outside our tech and media world, some of the other 150 new inductees this year include crowd favorites like “bromance” and “cougar.” I don’t know how we got by before.
