2016 Estimated Revenue Shares Dallas-Ft. Worth Radio Market

Broadcast radio advertising revenues in the Dallas-Ft. Worth radio market reached $306.4 million in 2016, according the first quarter edition of BIA/Kelsey’s 2017 Investing In Radio® Market Report. This $306.4 million revenue estimate, which only includes over-the-air (OTA) revenue, is broken down by owner in the pie chart above. Only 0.5% separate CBS*’s (soon to be Entercom’s) six stations (1 AM and 5 FM) from Cumulus Media’s six stations (3 AM and 3 FM). Combined, these two owners account for almost half of the OTA radio revenue in the Dallas-Ft. Worth radio market. iHeartMedia’s six stations (1 AM and 5 FM) came in third overall.

If you look at the individual stations, Cumulus Media’s sports station KTCK(AM) was the top grossing station in the market in 2016, according to BIA/Kelsey’s estimates, beating second place iHeartMedia’s Contemporary Hit Radio station KHKS(FM) by about half a million dollars. Salem Media Group’s Christian Contemporary station KLTY(FM) was third, with CBS’s news talker KRLD(AM) coming in fourth.

BIA/Kelsey will present more of its Texas market intelligence at its LOCAL IMPACT Dallas conference on Wednesday, April 5 in Dallas. The half day program will include speakers specializing in the local advertising marketplace, with a focus on location marketing, digital competition, and local advertising trends. Conference details and registration can be found here.

* I originally posted this as Entercom’s victory. In 2016, when the revenues were generated, CBS owned and operated these six stations.

  1. Wow, those advertising revenues in the Dallas-Ft. Worth are pretty incredible. I had no idea radio was still generating that kind of revenue dollars. The LOCAL IMPACT Dallas conference looks pretty interesting, I’ll have to check it out.
